Subject: My personal recorder choice
Content: I use a Sony ICDP520 digital recorder for my work. It is very similar to the one that TAPS uses. I've caught many EVPs with the unit and I really like the quality of the recorder, long battery life and ease of transferring recordings to my computer when doing analysis. I also use  Audacity, a freeware sound editor that provides really awesome editing and enhancement tools to bring out the best from my recordings from the Sony. It takes some experimentation to get used to the gear, but once you do get things down in a basic set of procedures, then it becomes easy.  I do recommend coming up with a written set of steps and procedures to follow when you do work with EVPs. It takes a lot of work to create a library and to get meaningful evidence in a single location for quick reference. My own recommendation is to also be sure to keep "original" copies of the EVPs and to not lose them. This is essential should the evidence be questioned. Also, the sorts of clips you often see on web sites are often WAY too short. They should be preceded by about 15 - 30 seconds of running time and the same for the end of the clip so people can put the clip into context with what they are hearing. Too often you just hear some seemingly random noise that just doesn't convince. Take the time to think of what the end listener is going to hear and expect! I hope to stimulate some discussions here and look forward to hearing from you! Tomcat
