You were right. The magic is in us all. I ended up feeling this profoundly when I made it to the ocean with my mother over the vacation. We walked over this huge sand dune with cacti and strong stringy plants and suddenly as we steped off the wooden bridge the ocean screamed.
"I'm HERE!" Almost floored my mother. She shook her shoes off and waded out to the surf with a few tears in her eyes. My father was snapping photos and standing ankle deep in sand and surf as well. I stood on the last step and my breath was instantly taken away. Silly me worried that I would not be connected to the earth while away from home. Ffft!
My wife jumped down into the sand and started to gather all our things into a neat area just farenough away from the water edge and I couldn't allow myself to step foot on that beach with my rotten shoes on. I sat down and quickly pulled them off with my socks and slowly let the sand spill between my toes. Right then and there I grounded myself and quietly said a prayer of thanks.
Walking out into the water made me wish I had brought a pair of shorts to wear. I really didnt think I would have such a strong pull to be sumerged in the ocean! The elements were all there at one time! Wind, earth, fire, and of course water. I suddenly had an urge to sit on the beach and I made a quick three mound sculpture that the water quickly washed away and from that moment on I had a feeling of peace and connection that I had never felt before.
Of all the things we did that week on our vacation, Disney, Universal, Medievil Times. The visit to the ocean on that quiet little (little, huh. BIG beach) is still our favorite. I guess magic really is around us and is us no matter where we go. I learned a big lesson that day.
